Nū Eatery, Hoi An

We have a winner for best meal of the trip. Modern Vietnamese cuisine, very interesting flavour combinations, western influenced style but localised in the best possible way.

Nū Eatery, 10a Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Hoi An.

Very worth your while. Extravagantly priced by local standards. But the food is to notch, puts many a good restaurant to shame. Total bill for 2 people, starters, main courses, desserts, a drink each, was 400k doing, about 20 US dollars.

Cycling and more ca phe

Spent a few hours cycling around Cam Kim island. Nice to get out of town and always nice to drink more coffee.

Banana pancake

A small child would like to steal Mel's banana pancake. From a street vendor at night market in An Hoi.

The Banh Mi Queen...

Doesn't quite measure up to banh mi phuong. Lacking the sharp lime and/or fish sauce flavour to cut the richness of the meat. Still damn good though.

More Cau Lao!

It was so good last night we decided to get some more at lunch today. Went to a place in the central market of Hoi An, apparently is where Anthony Bourdain ate one time? Idk, but the cau lao was good. Big bowl, 20k dong. Bargain. Stall 34. Mel made the tactical error of getting Mi Quang instead. Also good, but the noodles just don't cut it compared to the Cau Lao.
Cau Lao

Mi Quang

The stall. Good deal. We got drinks from next door, mango smoothy and lemon ice. Both good.

Vi Que 'taste of countryside'

Countryside tastes pretty good. Cau lao, white rose dumplings, crispy flat wontons, and deep fried eggplant. The cau lao and the eggplant were the clear winners.

Bun Cha Dac Kim

Bun Cha is a delicious thing. You have your rice noodles, your piles of fresh herbs, your BBQ pork, meatballs, and deep fried crab spring rolls, your broth with... something in it, some vegetable, and a big communal bowl of garlic and chili. combine in a bowl, eat. 195k dong for 2 with a drink, worth every penny of the... 16 dollars.

Cafe Trúng Dá

Egg coffee. Meringue top, yolk and sugar whipped through coffee base. From Cafe Giang, 39 Nguyen Hua Huang, old quarter, Hanoi. One hot , one cold.

Trying Nguyen Legend coffee

Is really good. Dripped over condensed milk then stirred through a cup of ice. Yum.

Hanoi dinner.

A place called Mum, just a couple hundred metres from our hotel. I had broken rice with bbq pork. Mel had vermicelli with sliced, fried spring rolls and salad. Hanoi beer over ice to drink with them both.  Good.

Iced black coffee for me, and lemon/mint crushed ice for Mel.

Good stuff.

Anh coffee shop.

So much dinner...

Vietnamese street food tour to give us a handle on what is delicious. The answer? All of it.

Pasteur St Brewing company

Amazingly good craft beer in Saigon. Who would have thought? There were some very impressive beers in this tasting array, including the final one, an imperial chocolate stout that won a world beer cup gold medal, and tastes like incredible.
